Authors thrive with options. In addition to Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), Amazon offers Kindle Scout, a reader-powered publishing program for never-before-published English-language books of 50,000 words or more in the following genres: romance, mystery & thriller, science fiction & fantasy, teen & young adult, and general literature & fiction. Check out the Kindle Scout Eligibility & Content Guidelines for more information, then jump-start your book and potentially earn a publishing contract from Kindle Press–in 45 days or less.
By using Kindle Scout you can connect with readers prior to publication. Kindle Scout readers nominate books they want to see published. If your book is published by Kindle Press, readers who nominated it will receive an early, free copy and be invited to leave reviews. If your book is published through KDP, Kindle Scout readers who nominated it will have the option to be notified when the book becomes available on Amazon.
Is Kindle Scout right for your book? To help you consider your options, here's a comparison of some of the benefits offered by Kindle Press (if your book is selected) and KDP:
At the time of submitting to Kindle Scout, you will be asked to review and accept the Kindle Press Submission & Publishing Agreement. Under the agreement, you grant to Kindle Press the exclusive right to consider your book for publication for 45 days. That is just long enough to allow for the Kindle Press team to review your submission and the 30-day nomination period for your book's campaign. We will let you know at the end of your campaign whether your book has been selected for publication by Kindle Press. If your book is selected for publication, Kindle Press will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish your book in eBook and digital audio formats in all languages for a 5-year renewable term. If your book is not selected for publication, you automatically get all your rights back at the end of the 45-day exclusivity period. Please be sure to read the Kindle Press Submission & Publishing Agreement in full before you submit your work to Kindle Scout.
