Leaderboard Questions

What is the Scout Leaderboard?
The Scout Leaderboard lets Scouts see how they stack up against other readers in helping to power publication. The ranking is determined by a point system, and you earn points for different activities that support Kindle Scout authors and their books. For example, you can earn 10 points by simply nominating a book you want to see published! To join the Leaderboard, simply go to your Scout Stats profile page, and click the "Opt-in to the Scout Leaderboard" button. You help power publishing; here’s your chance to show it.

How do I earn points?
You can earn points and increase your rank in the Leaderboard by taking specific actions, such as nominating a book or redeeming a free copy once a book has been published. For a full list of eligible activities, please see the table below. It’s important to keep in mind that you are ranked only against Scouts who have also opted to join the Leaderboard, so your rank may change over time as more users participate.

How do I sign up for the Leaderboard?
You can sign up by clicking on the “Opt-in to the Scout Leaderboard” button in your Scout Stats profile page. This will make your profile public and allow you and others to see your rank in the Leaderboard.

I don’t see my rank on the Leaderboard, when will it show up?
The Leaderboard may take up to 30 minutes to update once you have opted in. If you don’t see your rank immediately, please wait 30 minutes and check back.

How do I get featured on the Leaderboard Top 10 banner on the homepage?
In order to be featured in the hero on the main page, you must upload a photograph to your profile. Your photo must be in PNG (.png), GIF (.gif), or JPEG (.jpeg or .jpg) format and no larger than 5MB. Your Scout Profile picture should not include any copyrighted or trademarked material to which you do not hold the necessary rights and it must adhere to the Kindle Scout Eligibility & Content Guidelines.

How do I opt-out if I no longer want to participate?
You can opt-out by clicking here. Once you opt out, your profile will no longer be visible to others. You will continue to accumulate points but you will not be able to see your score. You can opt back in at any time.

What is my Scout Profile?
Your Scout Profile allows you to see all of your Scout activity in one place. You can update your current nominations, check on the status of a past nominations, download your free books, review the books you’ve read, and keep track of which Kindle Scout books you've championed from beginning to end.

Is my Scout Profile visible to other Scouts or authors?
By default, your profile (including your user name, profile picture and your scouting activity dashboard) will be kept private and can only be seen by you. If you choose to join the Scout Leaderboard, your profile will become public, and you and others will be able to see your rank in the Leaderboard. You may make your Scout Profile private again by clicking here, at which point you will no longer be able to see your Leaderboard rank.

What can others see when my profile is public?
Once you make your profile public, other users will be able to see your Scout Rank, the percentage of your nominations that have powered Kindle Press publications, and the genres that make up your nominations. They will also be able to see your current nominations, selected nominations, and the number of books you have reviewed.

Are there requirements for my Scout Profile picture?
Your Scout Profile picture can be any aspect ratio but we recommend dimensions as close to a square as possible since we will crop the longer side. It must be in PNG (.png), GIF (.gif), or JPEG (.jpeg or .jpg) format and no larger than 5MB. Your Scout Profile picture should not include any copyrighted or trademarked material to which you do not hold the necessary rights and it must adhere to the Kindle Scout Eligibility & Content Guidelines.

When will my Scout Profile show that I’ve reviewed a book?
Your Scout Profile will update within a day or two of your review successfully posting on Amazon. Please keep in mind that in order for a review to be posted on Amazon, it must adhere to Amazon’s Community Guidelines: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201929730
